The Australian Evaluation Society International Evaluation Conference is always a highlight of my year. It’s when the Australian evaluation community gets together to learn from each other, explore new practice, hear about successes, and make new connections.
This year, I got to work with my awesome ARTD colleagues Jade Maloney and Ellen Wong to share the new method we developed – Participatory Analysis Workshops.
It’s a really nifty way to collect data and analyse it in a participatory way. It’s efficient, because you start the analysis while you’re doing the data collection, and it leverages the expertise of your participants. When you’re working on a project where the participants know what’s happened inside-out – like we were – this is a really valuable way to explore your data.
The AES published the slides on its website – you can find ours here: https://www.aes.asn.au/images/images/stories/files/2024_Conference_Melbourne/aes24_Donkers.pdf
And here’s the abstract for our talk: https://aes24.sched.com/event/1ekM3/participatory-analysis-workshops-a-novel-method-for-identifying-important-factors-across-diverse-projects
Jade, Ellen and I are now working on a paper for a peer reviewed journal explaining the method more specifically, including the theoretical basis, the details that seemed to make it work, and what we think it might also be useful for.
If you want to have a chat about how this might be useful on something you’re working on, let me know! Send me an email at the link below.
